Top 10 Reasons To Take Advantage Of The SHOCKING BOGO Holiday Sale

Dear Friends, Fans, and Supporters,

It has been an interesting year. As this shocking documentary that briefly yet boldly describes how I became who I am creeps around the globe, it brings me opportunities to meet new and interesting people. The wild ride is not over and I am excited to see where it will take me next!

In the past few weeks, several Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY enthusiasts have emailed me to see if the film was still available on DVD because they think it would make a great holiday gift. The answer to that question is, "hell ya!"

These inquiries have me so overcome with gratitude that I have a gift for you! The SHOCKING BOGO Holiday Sale begins December 1st, 2014 and ends December 24th, 2014. For every Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY DVD you purchase, you will get one FREE!

(This offer is only available within the USA)

Not sure if Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY is the right gift for your loved one? Well, here are ten reasons why I think it would make an excellent gift for anyone over the age of 18.

  1. It's hilarious! It has not yet been confirmed but it is suspected that some viewers actually laughed their asses off. Although Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY is technically a documentary, it is highly entertaining.
  2. Some scenes, like the one where I'm having sex, might get viewers a little hot and bothered. However, it is absolutely not the inspiration porn that audiences have sadly gotten accustomed to.
  3. The soundtrack is an assortment of original work by the original Artists that encompasses Blues, Hiphop, Rock, Punk, and Country.
  4. Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY pushes viewers out of their comfort zones and encourages open minds to open just a little further.
  5. Gender and sexual diversity are a constant underlying theme yet, the words "gay" "bisexual" and "transsexual" are never spoken.
  6. Cats! A film about my life must include cats. They just make life better.
  7. Viewers gets to see what happens when I get pissed off, in more than one scene! There is some blood and a bit of violence...but not at the same time.
  8. The dream sequence! I didn't REALLY trick anyone into eating poop...I just thought about it.
  9. There are some very serious subjects addressed in Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY. To put it as mildly as possible, I have been through some shit. Before viewers have a chance to get all sappy about it though, the scene changes and they find themselves crying tears of laughter.
  10. Many find this documentary to be inspiring and that's nice and flattering and all that good stuff. However, it is also empowering! I shared these intimate bits and pieces of myself and my life in Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY to empower others to overcome their fears and do what makes them happy!
There you go folks. These are the top ten reasons I think Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY makes an excellent gift for all occasions. Thank you.

Love,
Plain Jane

Epic News Story - WKYC and Kris Pickel

Dear amazing community,

Your unending support of Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY is greatly appreciated.  Reaching out to the mainstream media was rather stressful though because I generally am disgusted by how people with disabilities are represented.  The risk of exploitation for the sake of ratings was a legitimate concern.  I carefully selected the local news personality whom I thought would represent me and this film with integrity and sent her the following email.
Dear Ms. Pickel,
After reading your bio on the WKYC website, I feel you are the most appropriate person to help me share what I have to share. You seem fearless and compassionate which, are two qualities I highly respect.
I am a 39-year-old, lifelong resident of northeast Ohio. I also have a disability…a connective tissue disorder that causes me to be very small and fragile. A common misconception of people with disabilities is that we are exempt from all the joys and sorrows life has to offer. As if, our disabilities define who and what we are. While this may actually be true for some people, it is not my truth.
Throughout my journey, navigating life from a wheelchair, people have repeatedly told me that I inspired them to overcome their fears and inhibitions. This happens more often as I get older and have more diverse life experiences. Hearing the numerous tales of how I inspired others to do what they once thought was impossible, inspired me and made me want to reach out to more people.
With no budget, no story board, and no experience I found a Videographer and said, “Hey, let’s make a documentary about my life.” He looked at me like I was crazy and then agreed to work with me. That was over five years ago.

“Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY” is now completed and will be released, directly to DVD, on December 2, 2013. At the risk of sounding egotistical, it turned out amazing! It is not your typical documentary. It moves very quickly. Artists in northeast Ohio do all the music on the soundtrack. Also, it is intended for adult audiences only due to nudity and delicate subject matter.

I would appreciate the opportunity to talk about this project with you and our community. If you would consider interviewing me, that would be fantastic. We can arrange it so that you can view the film prior to our interview as well.
Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.
Respectfully,
Jane Hash
If you have seen the story Kris Pickel put together, then you know I picked the right person!  She did a fantastic job and we couldn't be more happy.

Thank you Kris Pickel and WKYC News!

Laugh Until You Pee Your Pants!

Dear Friends, Fans, and Supporters,

On this Thanksgiving Day, I am very grateful that we can finally share Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY with you!  I am proud to say that I have accomplished more in my lifetime than was ever expected. However, this movie is by far my greatest and most challenging accomplishment.

My main goal for making this film is to inspire people of all abilities to overcome their perceived obstacles and truly embrace their authenticity.

I understand that within the disabled community, the word “inspiration” is often viewed as being condescending and rude.  Personally, I am not offended by it if it is used in the proper context.   Here are a couple examples.
  • UNACCEPTABLE CONTEXT - “Aw, look at you buying bread! You are so brave and inspirational.”
  • ACCEPTABLE CONTEXT – “I was always too afraid to get on the dance floor until I saw you at the club, dancing in your wheelchair.  You are really inspirational.”

Don’t worry. If you are not offended by the word “inspiration,” there are lots of other things in Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY that will likely offend you AND make you laugh until you pee your pants…sometimes simultaneously.

Seriously though, this is indeed a very special Thanksgiving Day. I am deeply grateful for Tom Trainer, who made Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY a work of art instead of just a documentary. He captured the true essence of who I am, in a way that words can’t describe.  He is the Director, Producer, Photographer, Videographer, Editor, Boom-Guy, Set Director, Narrator, Wardrobe Consultant, Trigger-Puller, Chauffeur, and Bodyguard.  Also, I am eternally grateful for the support of our vast community that spans across the country and beyond. We could not have reached this enormous goal without your support!

Thank you all,

Jane Hash aka Plain Jane

p.s. You should order a copy so you can tell me what you think.  I can't wait to hear!

What makes this movie a “SHOCKUMENTARY?”

Hello there, friends, fans, and amazingly supportive community! Questions about Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY are starting to roll in and we are very happy to respond! There is one question we are asked the most so we decided this was a good place to provide an answer.

Q. What makes this movie a “SHOCKUMENTARY?”

A. This movie is a “SHOCKUMENTARY” because although it’s wacky and entertaining, it is a documentary. None of the characters are fictional. Every topic is presented with either a big dose of dark humor, obscure imagery, awesome original music, or all three. Other than the obvious dream sequence where Jane carries out an act of revenge, none of the scenarios are contrived.

There are plenty of documentaries about spirituality, sexuality, addiction, recovery, health, family dynamics, disability, dwarfism, activism and other subjects that many find uncomfortable yet inspiring.  What makes this movie a "SHOCKUMENTARY" is that it combines ALL of these topics in one film...plus a few surprises.

Almost Famous

We are overflowing with excitement and gratitude here at the 'Plain Jane Headquarters.'  I knew from the inception of this project that teaming up with Tom Trainer was the right decision.  Neither of us really grasped the support, success, and general awesomeness that was in store for us though.

Recently, I had my first semi-live and in-person interview about "Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY" with Andrew Angulo from Disabled Life Media.  I was a little nervous because I'm accustomed to being the interviewer instead of the interviewee but I only made one minor mistake though in regard to the film's length (it is 71 minutes long not 111 minutes.)  Overall, we are very please with this excellent promotion.  Thank you Disabled Life Media for this opportunity!

Who is This Small Statured Subject, Plain Jane?

When I was a child people always told me that I was an, “inspiration” to them.  My response was usually a confused smile and a, “thank you.” I just thought it was a rather silly thing for a grown-up to say to me.  In my mind, I was just a kid who liked to color and play with Legos.  As puzzling as it was as I experienced life and moved through different circles, I learned how I was an inspiration to others.  I had work to do though and lessons to be learned.

I needed to explore what my passion was, what inspired me, and how I could share it with the people in my world along with the people of this world to make an impact.

This film illustrates me in real form, surrounded by my interests, my actions, the actors of my world and how we direct our stories…

As a teenager I got involved in extracurricular activities in school and Church. This allowed for lots of interaction with people who were not accustom to seeing a teenager with a physical disability who was as socially active as me.  Again, people would approach me to let me know that I was an “inspiration” to them.  I didn’t consider any of my activities to be extraordinary, so I assumed that I just impressed them by my fashionably tall 80’s hair and snazzy fashion sense.

In my early adulthood I attended college, became politically active in regard to the rights of people with disabilities, and overcame huge personal struggles with abuse, alcoholism and learning to live independently.  Family, friends, and total strangers still commented to the fact that I “inspired” them.  I did not understand…how were the things that were tearing at me somehow “inspiration” to others?

When I reached my 30’s, I experienced a shift in my own consciousness and self-awareness.  I had one realization after another.  I’m not certain what caused this shift but I’m sure being physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy had something to do with it.

It wasn’t my fantastic coloring skills that people found inspiring.  It was the fact that when I had one or two broken arms, I would just naturally color with my feet.  It wasn’t exactly my keen 80’s fashion sense that inspired people.  It was the way that I always carried myself like a rock star with inner confidence, which inspired people to reconcile with their own body image insecurities.  The observations of me struggling to overcome abuse, alcoholism, and independence made it clear what capabilities we all have and the control we all have over our life circumstances.  Regardless the limitation I’m perceived to have; I’ve been able to turn roadblocks into speed bumps and continuously move forward toward a more peaceful and sustainable life.
This is the stuff people find inspiring!

Then I asked myself…”I wonder how many lives I could have a positive impact on if I actually put forth a little effort?”  Thus far, any inspiration I have brought others has just been a by-product of me living my life.  I began to explore what really interested me, how that would impact my world, and how it would in turn benefit people in this world.  I took my stance on politics, laws, environmental issues, health, modern medicine, and current community events.  By defining my beliefs, building a foundation through education, standing up for what I see as important issues of today, and speaking what my plans are to help improve the states of these issues, I can just sit back and do what I do best…inspire people to do the same.

The biggest challenge for me was figuring out how to reach lots of people.  My efforts are now focused on not only reaching people through my daily living, but to capture them, get them involved in their own lives, and show them how to act on their life to better themselves and our world.  This was a lot harder than I anticipated. I needed an audience outside my inner circle of influence.  My goal was defined and I had to find a way to reach new and greater points of impact.

So, I did some research and found Documentarian Tom Trainer.  It would be much easier to give everyone an opportunity to play voyeur while I just kept living my life.  Imagine the opportunity to inspire within the median of film! I basically pitched the idea to him like this, “I’m just going to do what I normally do and I want you to film it. When we have enough interesting footage, we’ll turn it into a movie.  Ok?”  He agreed.

This project turned out better than either of us could have imagined five years ago.  Being the most challenging and most rewarding endeavor that I have ever willingly taken on, here is my life and here are my inspirations.
