Top 10 Reasons To Take Advantage Of The SHOCKING BOGO Holiday Sale

Dear Friends, Fans, and Supporters,

It has been an interesting year. As this shocking documentary that briefly yet boldly describes how I became who I am creeps around the globe, it brings me opportunities to meet new and interesting people. The wild ride is not over and I am excited to see where it will take me next!

In the past few weeks, several Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY enthusiasts have emailed me to see if the film was still available on DVD because they think it would make a great holiday gift. The answer to that question is, "hell ya!"

These inquiries have me so overcome with gratitude that I have a gift for you! The SHOCKING BOGO Holiday Sale begins December 1st, 2014 and ends December 24th, 2014. For every Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY DVD you purchase, you will get one FREE!

(This offer is only available within the USA)

Not sure if Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY is the right gift for your loved one? Well, here are ten reasons why I think it would make an excellent gift for anyone over the age of 18.

  1. It's hilarious! It has not yet been confirmed but it is suspected that some viewers actually laughed their asses off. Although Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY is technically a documentary, it is highly entertaining.
  2. Some scenes, like the one where I'm having sex, might get viewers a little hot and bothered. However, it is absolutely not the inspiration porn that audiences have sadly gotten accustomed to.
  3. The soundtrack is an assortment of original work by the original Artists that encompasses Blues, Hiphop, Rock, Punk, and Country.
  4. Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY pushes viewers out of their comfort zones and encourages open minds to open just a little further.
  5. Gender and sexual diversity are a constant underlying theme yet, the words "gay" "bisexual" and "transsexual" are never spoken.
  6. Cats! A film about my life must include cats. They just make life better.
  7. Viewers gets to see what happens when I get pissed off, in more than one scene! There is some blood and a bit of violence...but not at the same time.
  8. The dream sequence! I didn't REALLY trick anyone into eating poop...I just thought about it.
  9. There are some very serious subjects addressed in Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY. To put it as mildly as possible, I have been through some shit. Before viewers have a chance to get all sappy about it though, the scene changes and they find themselves crying tears of laughter.
  10. Many find this documentary to be inspiring and that's nice and flattering and all that good stuff. However, it is also empowering! I shared these intimate bits and pieces of myself and my life in Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY to empower others to overcome their fears and do what makes them happy!
There you go folks. These are the top ten reasons I think Plain Jane the SHOCKUMENTARY makes an excellent gift for all occasions. Thank you.

Love,
Plain Jane

Prisoners find inspiration without objectification

Jane Hash

One goal of making Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY is to provide audiences with a source of inspiration. Few people need and appreciate inspiration more than those who are spending a portion or the entirety of their lives incarcerated.

When the Executive Director of Re-Entry Bridge Network contacted me and asked if I would be interested in speaking to her students within the Richland Correctional Institution, I was shocked. How’s that for irony?

I had hoped this film would open up opportunities to do SHOCKUMENTARY Q&A presentations. Universities and disability related groups are where I imagined this objective would take me. Doing a presentation at a men’s prison was the furthest thing from my mind. After pondering this unique proposal though, the feelings of gratitude and excitement made it impossible for me to decline.

There are situations that I face daily, when someone tells me inappropriately that I am an inspiration. When able-bodied people tell me that I’m an inspiration simply because I am in a public place, that is an insult. Those perpetrators are objectifying me to make him/herself feel better.

Not once did I experience this sickening scenario while I was within the prison walls. Few populations have treated me with more respect and dignity than the Inmates at the Richland Correctional Institution for men. In fact, the only times I ever got nervous during the presentation is when the guards would pop into the room.

Until writing this post, right at this moment, I didn’t realize why the guards would randomly run into the room. It was the laughter. There is so much laughter in my life that I have taken it for granted. Every time the Inmates would roar with laughter, the guards would run in to see what was wrong. Then their observation would mesmerize them. The silly, shocked look on their faces was priceless.

Throughout the SHOCKUMENTARY Q&A presentation, we covered an array of thought provoking, intellectual, and fun topics. Of the numerous questions I was asked, none of them were about my disability. Not one! It would not have offended me. I’m just shocked once again! The Inmates were so appropriately inspired by the whole experience that they volunteered their limited resources and abundance of time to support a new project I am involved in.

It’s a good thing I wear a seatbelt all the time because this adventurous life I lead is rapidly gaining momentum!

Filmmaker Cheryl Green - Shockumentary Review

Dear Fans, Friends, and Supporters. All your wonderful comments and reviews are received with love and gratitude.  We are exceptionally pleased to share the following outstanding review of Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY by Filmmaker, Cheryl Green.
Cheryl Green
Co-Director, Co-Producer of
“Who Am I To Stop It”

A documentary film is a gift to the viewers. You get to sit back and relax while the subject of the film bears all. That said, rarely do you find one so rousing, engaging, and so bearing-it-all with such great spirits as "Plain Jane: The Shockumentary."
Jane Hash has done an incredible service to the disability community by making and starring in a documentary that shows her just as she is: a complete, complex, well-rounded, sexy, sexual person with a full life and a disability.
This film blatantly rejects the dehumanizing tropes so often saved up for disability documentaries: disabled person as pitiful help object, as subject of ceaseless inspiration, or as hero at overcoming personal obstacles. You see each one of those limiting stereotypes torn to bits in this film, though she is never heavy-handed. She accomplishes this by letting you observe her day-to-day world and by explaining when explanation is needed. For instance, how many people who criticize Social Security benefits recipients for not working know about financial injustices such as this scourge: go to work and earn a living, or keep your health insurance, which would allow you to keep on living.

Don't let that last sentence turn you off from jumping in, though, because you will be roaring with laughter and delight throughout the movie. Whether she perches serenely upon a rock in the middle of a rushing river, rides her power wheelchair like a chariot, complete with goat-costumed men with harnesses, or yells in frantic rage from the backseat of her car that she should be the one driving (she is 2 foot 7), the movie is nothing if not an absolute blast.
"Plain Jane" is groundbreaking, bringing together so many pieces of the disability experience that are typically silenced, such as sexuality, self-advocacy, abuse and injustice, and humor. I have the DVD, which I am promptly sending to a friend to watch. So I'm counting the seconds until this movie is available streaming. Because it simply must be watched and discussed sooner than we can get DVDs around in the mail.

Shockumentary Gains Fans In Australia

Northcott, in Australia, is an organization committed to facilitating people with disabilities in living the lives they choose to live by providing needed support. A shockumentary fan in Australia contacted the library at Northcott and told them they needed to add Plain Jane The Shockumentary to their list of resources...and they did! The following is their very kind review.

Plain Jane: The Shockumentary – Review from Northcott in Australia
Should work be allowed to be this much fun? This is the question I asked myself while viewing The Shockumentary in preparation to adding the DVD to Northcott’s catalogue. I truly belly laughed out loud and wondered if those within earshot wondered what was happening in the library.

Jane Hash generously shares her whole life with her viewers in this autobiographical documentary. Her condition, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, is a genetic brittle bone disorder. Jane exudes confidence, independence and an energy for life. The documentary uses a range of devices to share Jane’s story. Re-enactments, graphics, stills from the past and video footage combine to tell this sassy lady’s life story. The frankness that Jane exhibits with her sexuality and in relating her past alcohol dependence means that her viewers should be prepared to be confronted but not nervous. Pussy shaving is one topic given full coverage. Honesty is a trait to be appreciated and respected. All people interviewing for home health aides should take a leaf from Jane’s methods in order to find the right person for their needs.

So much of this film is sheer entertainment. The fire scenes along with the drums are magic. The scenes of the destruction of the computer are high comedy and few of us have not wanted to take the same revenge. Jane has no need for political correctness. She wants questioners to be respectful. “Say it nice,” is her message.
Where will this DVD find its place in the Northcott collection? It will encourage borrowers to choose to live lives that highlight their personal strengths, to seek adventure, to find enjoyable activities and to know when to find ways around what others may see as limitations. Northcott staff will benefit from using Jane’s story to appreciate the breadth of a life well lived thus far. There is undoubtedly much more to follow.
The assistance of our first borrower in writing this review is appreciated. She enjoyed Plain Jane: The Shockumentary as much as I did.

Laugh Until You Pee Your Pants!

Dear Friends, Fans, and Supporters,

On this Thanksgiving Day, I am very grateful that we can finally share Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY with you!  I am proud to say that I have accomplished more in my lifetime than was ever expected. However, this movie is by far my greatest and most challenging accomplishment.

My main goal for making this film is to inspire people of all abilities to overcome their perceived obstacles and truly embrace their authenticity.

I understand that within the disabled community, the word “inspiration” is often viewed as being condescending and rude.  Personally, I am not offended by it if it is used in the proper context.   Here are a couple examples.
  • UNACCEPTABLE CONTEXT - “Aw, look at you buying bread! You are so brave and inspirational.”
  • ACCEPTABLE CONTEXT – “I was always too afraid to get on the dance floor until I saw you at the club, dancing in your wheelchair.  You are really inspirational.”

Don’t worry. If you are not offended by the word “inspiration,” there are lots of other things in Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY that will likely offend you AND make you laugh until you pee your pants…sometimes simultaneously.

Seriously though, this is indeed a very special Thanksgiving Day. I am deeply grateful for Tom Trainer, who made Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY a work of art instead of just a documentary. He captured the true essence of who I am, in a way that words can’t describe.  He is the Director, Producer, Photographer, Videographer, Editor, Boom-Guy, Set Director, Narrator, Wardrobe Consultant, Trigger-Puller, Chauffeur, and Bodyguard.  Also, I am eternally grateful for the support of our vast community that spans across the country and beyond. We could not have reached this enormous goal without your support!

Thank you all,

Jane Hash aka Plain Jane

p.s. You should order a copy so you can tell me what you think.  I can't wait to hear!

What makes this movie a “SHOCKUMENTARY?”

Hello there, friends, fans, and amazingly supportive community! Questions about Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY are starting to roll in and we are very happy to respond! There is one question we are asked the most so we decided this was a good place to provide an answer.

Q. What makes this movie a “SHOCKUMENTARY?”

A. This movie is a “SHOCKUMENTARY” because although it’s wacky and entertaining, it is a documentary. None of the characters are fictional. Every topic is presented with either a big dose of dark humor, obscure imagery, awesome original music, or all three. Other than the obvious dream sequence where Jane carries out an act of revenge, none of the scenarios are contrived.

There are plenty of documentaries about spirituality, sexuality, addiction, recovery, health, family dynamics, disability, dwarfism, activism and other subjects that many find uncomfortable yet inspiring.  What makes this movie a "SHOCKUMENTARY" is that it combines ALL of these topics in one film...plus a few surprises.
